Thompson Community Services (TCS) is a British Columbia company that supports individuals with developmental disabilities and their families across the province. By delivering a unique package of services, TCS has been able to grow beyond their base in Kamloops as an increasing number of families have requested their help from Prince Rupert in the north of the province to Richmond in the south. TCS originally engaged ideaLEVER to help upgrade their website to reflect this increased presence. Through a series of conversations, it became clear to the TCS leadership that they would benefit from more clarity in their brand position. From there, it was logical for them to engage the talented ideaLEVER design team to update their identity and core marketing collateral.
Establish the history & core values TCS is a venerable British Columbian company that started more than 30 years ago with the goal of delivering outstanding services to the developmentally disabled. From their start in Kamloops they have grown to serve more than 21 communities across BC. Define the deliverables One of the key brand and design deliverables was to create a connection with existing and future clients no matter where they were in the province. One of our key findings was to transition from the geography-limiting name “Thompson Community Services” to the more neutral “TCS.”
Colour Matters The first impression is always colour and our design team needed to be faithful to the ideas of friendliness, openness, trust and reliability. We arrived at Azure to convey the feeling of stability and progress, while the accent color of Chartreuse suggests energy and vitality.
Typography As the decision to replace “Thompson Community Services” with “TCS” moved the company into a new era, the choice of the typography for the logotype was a significant decision. A modern font that expressed strength and clarity was chosen to deliver on the promise of the brand. Paired with the symbolism of the logo, the type conveys artfully the findings of the brand exercise.
Print Still Matters Though not a formal presentation folder, the TCS brochure was designed with a business card slot so that regional managers could personalize their marketing material by easily affixing their cards.
Planning is Everything And as ideaLEVER managed the print process as well, we were able to save TCS thousands of dollars by ganging all the marketing collateral on a single press sheet.
