Our approach to designing website always starts with asking the right questions. "What is the purpose of your website?!". For the Northern Lights Health Foundation, it was to let visitors know how they can help and get involved.
The 2 main calls to action are to teach visitors about the impact the NLHF has on the community and to encourage online donations.
The site had an extensive amount of legacy pages that were no longer relevant and were a distraction from the main goals. We realigned the content structure on the site and made it generally quite easy to respond on the Calls to Action.
Their focus on cleaning up the content, and displaying relevant information would hopefully lead to increased conversion of user engagement and donations. Implementing the site with SiteCM™ CMS means that they can easily update their pages and keep the focus on the goals.
In order to maintain their brand standards, two web safe fonts with almost exact likeness of the brand standard fonts and in the logo given in the identity Standard manual were chosen.
During the design phase, it was evident through the “sites I like/don’t like” that the problem with most charitable organizations sites is answering the “five W’s”: Who, What, Where, Why, When” and then, secondary to these questions is to answer “How”.
With the landing page the primary focus is to target the site's main goals and create Calls To Action (CTA’s) to suit these goals in a clean manner.
The pages we created are structured so that with the most common screen sizes in desktop, the layout is set to let the person know they can continue scrolling and that more content is available “below the fold”.
In order to serve the most people, the goal of the landing page was to be “responsive” in nature and scale to the users screen wise or browser window.
It is very important that the site is accessible from any device. Our design team created a concept that could easily translate to an infinite number of screen sizes, without adding additionsl time for the client to manage content.
