Mayor’s Gala for the Arts

I would like to thank the academy… Seriously, I would like to thank those that nominated us for the Mayor’s Gala for the Arts Awards. This event recognizes and celebrates artists, musicians, performers and businesses that support the arts in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District. We are very excited to be nominated along with Accents Inns and GK Sound as a business that supports the arts. Having attended and performed in previous years (with the Beyond Brass Big Band) I look...

Stay Vigilant - Don't get caught in a phishing net

A number of clients that have domains registered with us have recently received emails that are branded with Tucows our supplier of domain names. The emails include bogus "From" and "Reply-To"email addresses. If you have your domain registered with another registrar you may have received a similarly branded notification. These fraudulent emails claim that your domain has been suspended and directs you to click a link. DON’T DO IT! I got the email for one of our domains. It says...

Not Enough Hours in the Day to Do Everything

I did a presentation last week for the West Broadway BIA here in Vancouver, BC with 5 internet tips for brick and mortar retailers to help them grow their business.  One of the questions that came up, as it always does is, "where does the time come from?".  While this was raised specifically about social media, it pretty much applies to all of the more interactive marketing that seems to be a requirement of succeeding in the connected market place. I believe my response was...

Clicks Are Just the Beginning

If you are wondering about the benefits of all of the social media posts, and PPC ads you have been running, you will be interested in the report released this week by market research company Mintel . While the headline is that they forecast ad spending in Social Media will surpass $11 billion by 2017, it was the other data that I found more interesting and concrete: 40% of Social Media users were influenced by social when making purchasing decisions. the 18-34 cohort (Millenials/Gen Y)...

Hello? Is anyone paying attention?

"Hello... I've tried to call your support lines which told me that I'm not calling within business hours and the system hung up on me (I called at 2PM EST). I have also tried your "Online Assisted Support" and after filling in all of the information I received a web error that told me to try later... I filled in the form on Thursday of last week too with the same results... Are you having some technical difficulties or do you just not want to support your products?" That was the message a...

The content can be presented in many ways including web site updates, blog posts, photos, infographics, case studies, how to guides, reviews, videos, etc. It is unlike traditional marketing that usually interrupts what we are doing - ads on television, radio, newspapers, flyers, etc. as well as the new stream of invasive marketing...

Low Cost Web Site Traffic

Here are a few low cost ideas to generate traffic to your web site. Inbound links – These are links from other sites to your site. Mostly this takes time for you to contact those sites you want to have a link on. The site you contact will probably request a reciprocal link back to them so choose carefully who you want to be directly associated with. Remember, by including links on your site you are telling your customers you trust these sites. Do not ask for links from sites that have no...

Is fCommerce really dead?

Much has been made of late about the decision of some major US retailers to quietly close their Facebook stores and industry watchers have started wandering the Internet, ringing their bells, and calling "Bring out your dead!". Well I don't buy it. Having been in the web business since 1995 I have seen a lot of trends come and go and I believe that Facebook will grow to become a solid sales channel for merchants with a decent strategy.  In the early eCommerce gold rush, many traditional...
